Treatment of dental anxiety at FK
For many people, a visit to the dentist is associated with stress and anxiety. At Fjærvik Klinikken, we specialize in treating dental anxiety, and we do everything we can to make you feel safe and comfortable at the dentist.
An environment created for safety and well-being
We know that the small details can make a big difference. We've decorated our premises with calm colors, pleasant lighting and a relaxing atmosphere - all to make you feel at ease. You won't feel the typical "dentist smell" that is often associated with unpleasant experiences. We've created a harmonious atmosphere that helps you relax from the moment you enter the clinic.
You'll be given soft slippers on arrival, and we have toothbrushes available if you want to freshen up your breath before class. We also offer warm cloths with a lavender scent, which has a calming effect and contributes to a relaxing atmosphere. In addition, you can enjoy a cappuccino or a glass of bubbly in our waiting room for an extra pleasant start to your visit.
You don't have to feel ashamed
We have full respect for the fact that dental treatment can be difficult for various reasons. Many of our patients have experienced dental fear, and we meet you with understanding and care. We take our time, and every first visit starts with a conversation in a quiet room, away from the dentist's chair and equipment. Here, together, we can find the best way to give you a safe experience.
Our initial examination is a unique experience with a 60-minute appointment, giving you time to get comfortable and build trust. We take the treatment step by step, at your pace.
Personalized treatment
You'll always be greeted with a smile and a warm welcome. We know that every patient is different, and we customize your treatment according to your needs. Our dentists take the time to explain what's going to happen, listen to your concerns and find solutions that suit you.

Latest technology for comfortable dentistry
We always use the latest technology to make your treatment as comfortable as possible. In addition, we take the time to apply anesthesia in a gentle way, so you experience minimal discomfort.
We offer soothing alternatives
For patients with severe dental fear, we offer various types of sedative tablets, nitrous oxide and general anesthesia. This allows you to have a more comfortable dental experience and reduce any anxiety during treatment.

Learn more about the options
-
For many people with milder forms of dental fear, sedation will suffice. This means that as a patient, you are given a sedative tablet - which makes you more relaxed and removes the anxiety. If this is something you want as part of your treatment here at Fjærvik Klinikken, it is important that you inform us early on that you want this, so that sedation has time to work before treatment starts.
This means you can take an anti-anxiety tablet 45 minutes before treatment, and while waiting for it to take full effect, you can relax in our comfortable quiet zone.
After treatment that includes sedation, it is important that someone can pick you up and keep an eye on you for the rest of the day. It takes time for the effects of the tablet to wear off completely.

Nitrous oxide (N2O - also known as laughing gas) is an odorless and colorless gas that does not irritate the body. The laughing gas replaces pain with pleasure, and around 5 minutes after inhalation you will experience a feeling of euphoria that spreads through your body. You'll feel lighter and almost indifferent to the upcoming dental treatment.
For dental treatment with nitrous oxide, you must fast at least 4 hours before your appointment.
For patients who find it very uncomfortable to be examined by a dentist, we can offer the first consultation and accompanying examination to include nitrous oxide.
For all treatments and examinations with nitrous oxide, there will be an additional cost per commenced hour.

For some people with a strong fear of dentists, general anaesthesia is the only way to carry out dental treatment. During anesthesia, you are in an unconscious state without any pain or discomfort, and your safety is ensured by an anesthesia team that assists the dentist.
Plenty of time is set aside for this, and everything is done at a pace you're comfortable with.
How to order anesthesia treatment
The first step towards dental treatment under general anesthesia is a consultation with us. During this conversation, the focus will be on getting to know each other better, and we will talk about your wishes for your teeth and their condition. If it's not too uncomfortable, we'd also like to take a look inside your mouth - without any kind of intervention - to get a better overview of your needs. We would also like to take photographs and X-rays of your teeth and jaw. This is important for us to get a good overview of your dental health and what measures need to be taken. Plenty of time is set aside for this, and everything is done at a pace you are comfortable with.
Formalities before we can treat with anesthesia
Based on this examination, we will provide an overview of the options available to you, and together we will draw up a treatment plan that includes cost estimates for the necessary treatment. You will be given a health form to fill out by your doctor, which is then sent to us. Our anesthesiologist must have this form to ensure that you are in good health and can be put under anesthesia during treatment.
Once this is in place, we will make an appointment with you for your treatment under general anesthesia.
Economy and financing
With us, you will always receive a cost estimate after your examination with us.
Once we've drawn up a treatment plan, we'll be able to map out the costs and discuss how these will be covered. Particularly when anesthesia is required, there will be additional costs. It provides peace of mind for both you and us that the financing plan is in place before treatment begins.
Various conditions may qualify for support from Helfo. Your dentist will inform you of this, and we have direct settlement with Helfo, which means that you never pay more than your deductible.
With us, you can get good financing solutions for your dental treatment through our partner Resurs Bank. We offer interest-free loans over 12 months for treatments up to NOK 100,000.
Many of our patients have chosen this solution to get started with much-needed dental treatment as quickly as possible. We can apply for dental financing from Resurs Bank while you wait.
